Light and Dark
Offsetting the glistening white appliances in this California house: an island using dark soapstone counters and backsplashes, as well as walnut cabinetry painted a muted gray-green (Paris Gray by Annie Sloan Chalk Paint). The wicker stools are by Palecek.
Marble Countertop
Designer Mark D. Sikes overlooks the blue-and-white French bistro stools and sky-blue walls using a mossy green island.
Budget-Friendly Option
Once the objective is rustic simplicity, there is no need to spend lots on custom cabinetry and granite countertops, especially on a kitchen island. With this kitchen makeover, paint transformed oak cabinets, purchased off the rack and topped with Ikea slabs, while the same semigloss brightened stools out of Walmart.
